Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: June 12, 2026
1. Our Commitment
Pathren is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards so that higher education institutions and their students can use our adaptive learning platform equitably.
Our target conformance level is WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by many institutional procurement and compliance frameworks.
2. Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Pathren is working toward substantial conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have implemented skip navigation, landmark structure, keyboard-accessible interactions, screen reader announcements for errors, automated accessibility linting, and documented testing processes. Ongoing audits address remaining gaps.
3. Accessibility Measures
Pathren takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- UI built on Radix UI primitives with ARIA support via shadcn/ui components
- Skip navigation link and semantic page landmarks
- Keyboard-accessible study interactions including drag-and-drop ordering (dnd-kit KeyboardSensor)
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements
- Respect for
prefers-reduced-motionuser preferences - Automated accessibility linting (eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y) during development
- Manual testing checklist (axe DevTools, Lighthouse, keyboard, screen reader) before releases
- Documented internal accessibility policy and testing procedures
4. Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA:
- Third-party content: User-uploaded media (images, PDFs, video) may lack alternative text unless provided by the uploader
- Complex admin workflows: Some administrative data tables and bulk actions are being iteratively improved for screen reader announcements
- AI-generated content: Dynamically generated study material may occasionally lack optimal structure for assistive technology; we monitor and refine prompts and rendering
- Legacy pages: A small number of admin interfaces are being updated to use shared accessible components
We prioritize Critical and Serious accessibility issues for immediate remediation.
